Beach Weekends and Road Trips!
June 9, 2006

Confused about how to wear this season's SHORTS? Depends on where you are off to and at what time of day! Wear them with floaty sheer blouses, casual tanks and tees, or paired up with oxfords and shrunken blazers for an edgy boardroom ready look. We recommend flats and any and all varieties of espadrille sandals for more casual days. When heading out for a night on the town (paint it red!) slip on a pair of funky strappy heels.

Brocade is popping up here and now for Spring/Summer looks that blend easily into Fall's more heavy weight fashions. Replacing traditional suiting, is the shrunken and more lux version- brocade skinny pants cut off at the ankle or just below the knee along with 3/4 sleeve blazers. This look is even acceptable for evening events when paired with yet more glamorous fabrics that glitter and glow.

Menswear inspired vests over tanks, tees and sundresses are still cool and have a great rock star vibe. The younger crowd can get away with this look a little easier, however, those of you over the tender age of 25 can rock this look by combinig it with more tailored pieces like a classic white oxford blouse.

The June issue of LUCKY magazine recommends adding a touch of RUFFLED LEATHER to your Spring/Summer wardrobe - to keep this look wearable, focus on accents like trim on your purses, belts, shoes and bags for an effect that is "a little rococo, a little 80"s". Like Brocade, this trend has the fortuity to be a fashionable Fall option.

TWO TIPS to help you pack for a trip: Now, some of you are pro's at this kind of thing, but the way we figure it, everyone needs a refresher at some point in time! There is always something new to learn!

  1. Always use PINT-SIZE toiletries- they cut down on the bulk in your luggage, AND once you get home from your fabulous getaway or business trip, you can refill the little guys so they are ready for your next adventure! If you use cotton balls or Q-tips carry them across the timezones in plastic baggies- they can be compressed and will cut down on awkward packaging
  2. Rolling your clothes is a huge help when packing! Not only does it reduce the amount of time spent ironing once you reach your destination, but it also allows you to pack (roll) outfits together so you have a better idea of what you are actually taking and what is wearable!

As it is Summer time and you will probably be heading out of town at some point soon, we will have a handful more tips and suggestions we hope will be helpful in the next few weeks. Hope everyone has a lovely weekend! Pile on that sunscreen! Until next time... The gals at New To You
