I think we always have the idea that we are going to go through our closets and drawers and get rid of everything that doesn't fit, look good or we just plain don't like.
Sometimes we actually even start to do it. We march into the bedroom, fling open the closet doors and then are met with so much confusion and bounty that after a few minutes of moving hangers around we feel disgruntled and just slowly back away and close the door.
"Tomorrow is a better day" we reassure ourselves and then the realization that months have passed by and the clutter is still hanging around mocking you every time you venture into the closet.
I don't know about you but I do like to wear certain things over and over while other items are just languishing, untouched and forgotten.
I read the book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo, about taking each item and holding it to see if it has true meaning. That was kind of cool but didn't work for everything.....maybe I did it wrong!
I have found something that does work for me is to grab out one or two items that I know for a fact I never put onto my back and I make a vow to wear them within the next week. If I actually try to wear them and don't, well that's it!!! Out they go. If it's a designer piece and think it will sell in the shop, I sell it. Often I will just donate the items and call it a day. In the words of the intriguing Mary Poppins, spit spot and it's done!
